On-board HMI Computer w/ Graphic Display                 On-board HMI Computer w/Video Display

The optional on board HMI computer with Wonderware Graphics display allows the operator or maintenance technician to see the status of all of the equipment on the locomotive and to access the alarm logs, etc.  An off-board version of the HMI computer is also available for applications where the Process Locomotive is used primarily for automated loading or unloading as is controlled from a control room. The off-board version uses ethernet RF modems to link the PLC to the off-board HMI computer.  This allows the operator in the control room to monitor all of the locomotive systems.  There is also an option for both an on-board and off-board HMI computer. This can is handy for jobs  requiring extensive switching and also a lot of time indexing railcars at load/unloading points.

There is an option for a second push button control stand in the cab if the operator wants to be able to operate from both sides of the cab. The unit comes standard with an operator's seat on both sides. The operator can also sit in the second seat and operate using his remote control. He can also take the remote transmitter and ride steps of the locomotive, ride the front car of the train (if the locomotive is pushing the train), work from the ground, or work from any other position as long as he has good vision of what he is doing.

By allowing the operator the freedom to work anywhere around the train he is able to throw the track switches and derailers, couple and uncouple railcars including hooking up the air hoses, set and release handbrakes, install chocks, do spotting at loading or unloading points, keep up with car numbers and locations, etc. The single operator is able to do what used to take an engineer, a conductor, and two brakemen. Generally one person can handle and entire facility; however, there are cases where it is necessary to have a two person crew.
